Illustrated Private Post Card of Main Street looking south from City Hall, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, 1902. Postmarked September 29, 1902, mailed from Chapleau, Ontario to Mission Junction, British Columbia.

Scene Details:

  • Bird's-eye illustrated view looking south down Main Street from City Hall
  • Electric streetcar on the left side of the wide street
  • Early automobile prominent in the centre foreground
  • Horse-drawn carriages and wagons throughout the scene
  • Large crowds of pedestrians lining both sidewalks
  • Multi-storey commercial buildings with flags flying on both sides
  • Manitoba coat of arms shield printed in red at top right
  • Pencil notation "SP 29 02" at top centre
  • Caption reads: "Main Street — Looking South from City Hall — Winnipeg, Man."

Back: Undivided back Private Post Card format. "THIS SPACE MAY BE USED FOR CORRESPONDENCE" and "THIS SPACE IS FOR ADDRESS ONLY" printed. King Edward VII Canadian 1-cent green stamp affixed. Postmarked. Sent from Chapleau, Ont. Handwritten message: "am just jogging along 3½ hrs late. Curm." Addressed to Mrs. J.T. Murray, Mission Jct., B.C. Red ink price notation "5/-" at bottom right.
