Scotch Fun in the Olden Times - Mackie's White Horse Whisky Advertising Comic - UK (message from Saskatchewan) Postcard SP24

Early undivided-back advertising comic postcard for Mackie's White Horse Whisky, Scotland/UK. Printed caption at top: "Every Bottle Guaranteed by Analysis." Caption at bottom: "Scotch Fun in the Olden Times."

Scene Details:

• Full-colour lithograph comic scene featuring caricature kilted Scottish figures in a fairground setting
• Central figure — a woman in tartan skirt and feathered hat — walks a tightrope strung between two wooden poles
• Spiked metal hazards line the ground below the rope
• Large centre banner reads: "ANYBODY DOUBTING THE AGE OF / MACKIE'S / WHITE HORSE / WHISKY / IS REQUESTED TO TAKE A DRAM / AND WALK THE TIGHT ROPE"
• Prize signs nailed to a tree at right: "1st Prize" with a white horse image, a "Haggis" label, and a competition sign
• Spectators in kilts and red tam o'shanter hats watch from behind a wooden fence
• A figure at far right has apparently fallen, red hat tumbled to the ground — comic effect
• Handwritten message runs vertically up the left margin of the front (pre-1907 undivided back era convention)

Message Transcription:

Front margin (written vertically):
"Let me know you what answer you got from Ferguson. There is no place up here, they all want from 30..."

Back (dated June 5):
"I received your letter the other day so things are going along O.K. on the farm and the seeding done. It is almost impossible to get mail up here it has to go such a round to get here, it goes to Macklin and then down this way. Lizzie is about 60 miles south west from Macklin but when the C.P.R. is built it will be close to them. It is alright working here I have a soft job just clerk and look after the books. S. is away a lot he has a law case on with an old fellow here and it takes him to Sktoon a lot. The mud here is it — it is all yellow clay and sticks just like Regina mud. I am going up to Luseland on the 18th to their sports to see J. Ellis and D. Scott that used to be in Wolseley well they [?] and give my love to all. Dan."
