Early undivided-back postcard showing The Gorge waterway in Victoria, British Columbia. Caption printed at bottom: "The Gorge, Victoria B.C." with a handwritten Norwegian inscription reading "Gratulerer med dagen Ole" (Happy Name Day, Ole).

Scene Details:

  • Arched white footbridge spanning a calm, reflective waterway — the Gorge Waterway, an inlet of Victoria Harbour
  • Foreground dominated by a large Garry oak tree leaning over the water's edge, with dense mixed woodland framing the scene
  • A small white structure or boathouse visible at right beyond the bridge
  • Overcast sky; still water with clear bridge reflection
  • Printed caption along lower white border: "The Gorge, Victoria B.C."
  • Handwritten Norwegian inscription across the lower image area: "Gratulerer med dagen Ole" (Happy Name Day, Ole)

Postal Markings:

  • Stamp: Green one cent King Edward VII Canadian stamp, upper right, cancelled with heavy parallel bar obliterator
  • Tofino, B.C. split-ring cancel: Circular date stamp — "TOFINO / AP 22 / B.C." — rare split-ring postmark from the remote west coast Vancouver Island community
  • Ucluelet, B.C. split-ring cancel: Circular date stamp — "UCLUELET / AP 22 / B.C." (year consistent with 1908) — second rare split-ring cancel from the neighbouring coastal village
  • Both Tofino and Ucluelet split-ring cancels on the same card are an uncommon pairing, reflecting mail routing through both small post offices on the same day
  • Format: Canada Post Card, undivided back — "THE ADDRESS ONLY TO BE WRITTEN ON THIS SIDE" — places production pre-1907 or very early transitional period
  • Addressee: Miss Agnes Vinzen, Tofino, B.C.
