Scene Details:

  • Real Photo Post Card (RPPC) — an original photographic print on postcard stock, not a lithograph or reproduction
  • Street-level view looking south along Main Street, Penticton, British Columbia, Canada — dated 1919 in the photographer's hand directly on the image
  • Wide unpaved dirt road filling the foreground, with muddy wheel ruts and pedestrian paths along both sides
  • Left (east) side of street: large two-storey red brick building housing the Board of Trade ("Chamber of Commerce") at the corner — the dominant civic structure in the scene
  • "Stocks Studio" photography sign on a tall vertical board attached to the adjacent brick building — advertising films developed in 24 hours, work done upstairs
  • "Stocks" storefront signage also visible at street level further down the block
  • Multiple early Ford Model T automobiles parked along the left curb and visible mid-street
  • Telephone and power poles with cross-arms and wires lining both sides of the street
  • Right (west) side: two-storey wood frame commercial buildings with covered sidewalk awnings and a man standing on the boardwalk
  • Street recedes into the distance with more storefronts, signage, and parked vehicles visible including what appears to be a "Veranda" or hotel sign
  • Bare-leafed trees visible along the right side, consistent with early spring or late autumn
  • Caption handwritten in white ink on image: "Main Street Penticton — 1919"
  • Photo credit handwritten on image: "Photo by Stocks"

Back Details:

  • Unused RPPC — no message or address written
  • Printed text: "This is an original photograph by STOCKS THE PHOTOGRAPHER, Penticton, B.C., Canada"
  • "POST CARD" header with "Made in Canada" and divided back format
  • AZO eagle stamp box in upper right — consistent with AZO paper stock used 1910–1930
  • Light foxing/age toning at upper right corner near stamp box

Please zoom into and look closely at the front and back photos to view condition, and feel free to send me a message if you have any questions. Thank you, D
