  • Double electric streetcar tracks run down the centre of the street
  • Numerous telegraph and telephone poles with overhead wires line both sides of the street
  • Victorian-era commercial buildings on the right; multi-storey brick facades with awnings and signage
  • "Examiner" newspaper sign visible on the right-hand building
  • Pedestrians and horse-drawn vehicles visible along the street
  • Caption below image: "No. 116. Government Street, Victoria, B.C."
  • Published by W.G. MacFarlane, Canadian Souvenir Cards, Toronto (printed vertically on left edge of front)
  • Undivided back — "Private Mailing Card" format; message written on front right margin
  • Used — handwritten message dated 7/7/03; addressed to Miss Jenny Currie, Royal Hotel, Stirling, Scotland

Postal Markings:

  • Circular date stamp: VICTORIA, B.C. / JUL 17 / 03 / CAN (upper right of reverse)
  • Stamp removed — torn area at upper right of reverse where stamp was affixed
  • Handwritten message on front (written vertically along right margin): "Dear friend, I was very pleased to receive your card. Will you please continue to change. Yours, Margaret Robertson"
  • Address on reverse: Miss Jenny Currie, Royal Hotel, Stirling, Scotland
  • Return address on front (written vertically, left margin): "100 Herald St., Victoria, B.C."
