Discovery Day 1918 Parade Dawson Yukon Klondike Gold Rush Canada Vintage Postcard SP22
This vintage postcard commemorates Discovery Day, a historic holiday in Dawson marking the strike on August 17, 1896, which triggered the Klondike gold rush. Discovery Day in 1918 was celebrated with a parade and fancy dress ball in honour of the Klondike Pioneers. The photograph shows a decorated parade float with people in period dress, with a building visible in the background.
Races and competitions added the flavour of a fall fair, and as in 1918, visitors still arrange to spend Discovery Day in Dawson. The postcard features a beautiful decorative border of autumn maple leaves framing the historic black and white photograph, along with a coat of arms featuring a Husky dog.
