Vananda BC by George Barrowclough

Vananda British Columbia, unused George Barrowclough RPPC.

Van Anda, no longer spelled Vananda, is an unincorporated settlement on Texada Island with a population of 70 people.

Named after the Van Anda Copper & Gold Mining Company which owned 840 acres (3.4 km2) on the northeast side of the island, including the "Copper Queen" claim. President Edward Blewett, a prominent American capitalist and miner, named both his son and this mining company after his wife, Carrie Van Anda (maiden name). ~ from wikipedia

Robert Foster, Victoria BC

Robert Foster, Victoria British Columbia, Sports Trainer, Nicknamed 'Old Tulip', unused scarce postcard.

Bob Foster was a professional boxer, turned trainer and then went on to train many athletes in the Victoria British Columbia area near the beginning of the 20th century. He was inducted into the Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame in 2003.

Bob's headstone at Ross Bay Cemetery says it all:

"An athlete who devoted a residence of 20 years to the development of the young men of Victoria in the form of manly exercise."

A recent fave

I found this gem at a garage sale recently. It's crazy the quality cards you can find at yard sales, but often you have to ask.

This one goes straight into my own personal collection – which consists primarily of dogs and their humans.     ~ d

Roadie

Roadie

After three weeks of adventure, fun, bugs, conversations on docks, crazy heat, uncertainty, photography, moonlight laughter, 4000kms of paved and gravel roads and way too many maple walnut ice cream cones, Mrs L and I are back from our roadie to prairies and Rockies.

And as much as I like to travel, sometimes the simplicity of putting on some Miles Davis and settling back into a cozy and cool office researching and handling old postcards is pretty appealing too.

And for all who purchased while away, thanks so much. Very much appreciated and thanks also for your patience – they should all be en route by end of day tomorrow. ~ d
