I have been watching and scrolling through social media and news feeds about the Jasper wildfire probably more than I should over the last 48 hours. Like many Canadians, the place has given an abundance of beautiful memories for my wife and I and our families over the last three decades.
So nothing made me more nauseous to see notification after notification of postcard sales the other night on one of my online platforms. Normally a good thing, but every new sale coming in was about the Jasper region, and whenever purchases come that quickly and all of the same location – well usually it means tragedy and sadness. (of recent; Notre-Dame Cathedral, Lytton, Maui, Kelowna and now Jasper, and all by fire)
It’s early in the process and at this point I’m not exactly sure how much of the town was saved, but I know it’s already devastating and horrific. My heart goes out to all residents, firefighters and those lending a helping hand. And to all the wildlife too. Oh those poor animals.
Enclosing a few postcards of better times in that beautiful place.
